Steve glares while Sarah keeps her Browning on him. Steve pulls open a drawer in his desk. Sarah points her gun at it.

INSIDE THE DRAWER are two items: a police badge and a name tag with the name FERGUSON on it.

STEVE
Does West Highland press a button?

INT. POLICE PRECINCT -- FLASHBACK -- NIGHT -- 1984

A ten-year-old Steve Ferguson sits in an office, awaiting his father at the West Highland Police Station. Wavy, brown hair, blue jeans, sneakers. The year is 1984 according to the wall calendar. He watches Bruce Springsteen's video of "Dancing in the Dark" on "Friday Night Videos" on a small TV. His father, PAUL FERGUSON, walnut hair, muscular, enters. Steve quickly turns the TV down.

YOUNG STEVE
Dad, I can explain.

PAUL
Don't even try, Stevie. Wandering in this city at night can get you killed. You're grounded.

STEVE
I didn't mean to.

Paul steps forward. Steve cringes a little as Paul puts his hand on his son's shoulder.

PAUL
I don't want you to get hurt, kid. I love you too much. You understand?

GUNFIRE ERUPTS on the opposite side of the station. Paul yanks Steve automatically down to the floor and draws his gun. The SOUND of gunfire gets closer to the office. Steve looks around wide eyed. BOOM! BLAM! Shrieks of pain ECHO in the building.

PAUL
Get under the desk! NOW!

THE DOOR

to the office is KICKED inward. The 1984 Terminator and Paul exchange gunfire. A round shatters the tube of the small TV set as it shows Bruce Springsteen pulling Courtney Cox up on stage.
