John puts in his computer, laptop, CD player. The Terminator replaces the lids and attaches the grounding wires to each one. He slides a heavy cement lid back in place. |
EXT. MONTAGE -- DAY |
CROWDS OF PEOPLE in downtown L.A. panic and scramble over the tops of cars while the rioting continues. The air raid sirens blare, rising, falling; reverberating among the downtown streets. THE HIGHWAYS leading out of L.A. are filled with cars as people flee the city. Motorists honk their car horns in frustration. If you think a traffic jam in L.A. is a madhouse, then these highways have become enough to DRIVE someone mad. AT THE NUCLEAR COMMAND CENTER the missiles fired by T-INFINITY reach their targets. The view screens show flashes of light on maps of Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and China. The missiles fired in the retaliatory strike descend on the U.S., releasing warheads. SEVERAL NUCLEAR WARHEADS explode in a line arcing East to West five hundred miles above North America. The electromagnetic pulse created by the explosions is tracked as it envelops the continent at the speed of light. THE ELECTRICAL GRID of Los Angeles shuts down from the EMP pulse. Traffic lights darken, crosswalk signals fade out. AUTOMOBILES fall silent. People turn their ignition keys. Click, click, click. Nothing; the electronic ignitions are fried. Several televisions in a nearby store window, blink to static and then to black screens. The air-raid sirens quit. |
